The dog's owner, 33-year-old David Lowe was summoned to court in Bolton on charges of cruelty to animals, but to the meeting, he did not appear.  Nevertheless, the hearing was held in his absence. As a result, he was convicted on five counts and sentenced to imprisonment.
But his time David Lowe has not served. He repented of his actions by saying that he had financial difficulties and was homeless for 4 years, and the dog allegedly was to feed his ex-girlfriend.

This humane court decision has shocked many caring people and activists. Lowe was forced to flee after leaving the courtroom, when protesters demanding his imprisonment, formed a picket.
Lorraine Edwards, who works as a volunteer in the rescue center, said: "All we wanted was cspravedlivosti towards Flayu, but the current justice system is unable to do so. This man had to go to jail for what he did to the dog"

Veterinarian Angus MacKenzie said that Fly was the most emaciated dog he had seen in 30 years of practice.
The vet said that the dog had suffered immensely, apart from extreme exhaustion she had a variety of illnesses and they decided to euthanize the animal.
